A Danish researcher from Surrey University explains (in English) that Shakespeare might never have written Hamlet without the generosity of the Bishop of Lund.

In the times of the plague the theaters are closed but the play must go on. The Globe theatre in London (known as the wooded ‘O’) has been showing past productions on their YouTube channel. NTLive from the National Theatre in London has also been showing its recorded plays on-line many of which include Shakespeare plays. As part of the global programme of events and activities celebrating Shakespeare’s work on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016 the Anglo-Swedish Society of Gothenburg will present ‘To Be or Not to Be Shakespeare‘ .The ‘Not quite a ceilidh’ ensemble will perform ‘What You Will’ a one act reading of a play depicting William Shakespeare’s adventures in his first occupation as a Forest of Arden poacher.
We will take a typical ASS, light hearted, look at the great authorship debate – did someone called Will Shakespeare write the plays of Shakespeare or did someone else hold the quill? We will have a play reading of ‘What You Will’ a new play by John Chaplin about the 15 year old William Shakespeare and his first meeting with his wife to be Anne Hatherway, and a mysterious connection to a Swedish Princess.
Following the Reading the most likely candidates (including Shakespeare himself) will have the opportunity to put their case before the audience. In the Authorship Conspiracy Bingo game teams supporting each candidate will compete for the authorship of Shakespeare plays – a sort of trial-by-bingo. At last we will discover the truth behind the controversy.
WARNING: The intention of the ASS is to enlighten but mostly to entertain. Therefore, a deep knowledge of Shakespeare is in no an way advantage but it would certainly not be a hiderance.
THE AUTHORSHIP QUESTION – here are the results
In 2016 the Anglo-Swedish Society of Gothenburg decided to resolve the Shakespeare Authorship question. A question that has troubled academics for a 100 years.
The result of the Shakespeare trial-by-bingo was that we discovered the following:

# Queen Elizabeth wrote: Hamlet
# Edward de Vere wrote: Macbeth
# William Shakespeare wrote: Loves Labour’s Lost, Comedy of Errors, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night.
At the annual NQAC nine teams were given alternative candidates to support. The supporting evidence was given in the form of background information on the author and a list of theatrical elements that recur in Shakespeare’s plays. Each alternative author competed against William Shakespeare for the authorship of nine plays via our ancient and proven Anglo-Swedish method of literary analysis known as ‘trial-by-bingo’. This being as good a way as any to discover the true authorship.
So far we have not had a chance to put the other plays to trail. We are very happy that the Anglo-Swedish Society of Gothenburg has been able to finally resolve this issue for the world.

It is 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare and the Anglo-Swedish Society will be celebrating the life and works of Shakespeare during the year.
Join us on this free online course from the British Council will look at the life and works of William Shakespeare and take you from his Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Globe Theatre in London, from where he secured his central place in English literature.
The course will look at five of Shakespeare’s plays with the help of actors and experts from around the world. They will explain and explore the universal themes Shakespeare addressed in his work.
The plays are: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest and Macbeth.
